STEREOTYPES

A stereotype is a thought that can be received about specific types of individuals or ways that people live. these thoughts do not reflect reality. stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination are concepts that are related to people. stereotypes are seen as the most cognitive component and usually occurs without conscious awareness. this can be shown in media. some shows emphasise these stereotypes and then some shatter them by contrasting them so much that they create a new concept. by doing this in show it allows the show to have a more modern and contrasting approach to media which can then appeal to a wider audience because it is seen as alternative which can appeal to the audience.

Some examples

Racial profiling
One of the main types of stereotypes is race. An example of this would be all Blacks are good at sport. This is because it is grouping a race together to indicted that everyone within that race are good at athletics.

Gender Profiling
Men are strong and do all of the work. They provide for their housewives that do all of the cleaning and have no job. Their job is to stay at home and look after the children and cook the food.

Culture profiles
Stereotypes also exist in cultures this is because it is shown when portraying Americas. This is because they are shown as lazy obese and dim witted. This is also shown with Arabs and muslin this is because they are all put into one category and this is that they are all terrorists.

Sexual Stereotypes
Sexual stereotypes, on the other hand, suggest that any feminine man is gay and any masculine woman is a lesbian. Those who believe gay stereotypes may also believe that homosexuality is immoral, wrong and an abomination.
